Catalin Borta ~ Head Chef
 

“Food gives you a taste of a culture. The type of food, how it’s prepared and how it’s consumed tells you a lot about a culture.”


Catalin Borta, Sportivo’s Head Chef built his career on giving South Australians a taste of Italian and Mediterranean culture.

Born and raised in Romania, Catalin grew up surrounded by exotic flavours. It was at a young age when Catalin knew he wanted to be a chef. But he wasn’t always the culinary creative he is today. “I use to cook mac and cheese for my family,” Catalin said.

Dreaming of a life full of food and travel, Catalin studied cooking in Europe. He went on to cook his way across Italy and USA before coming to Australia on a state sponsorship. Catalin completed a Tafe SA Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and took on the role of Head Chef at Sportivo and he have a great team.

Creating over half of Sportivo’s menu, working with ownerS(Dill and Uday) and the kitchen crews together they introduce new styles of antipasti, breads, wood oven pizzas, calzone,burgers, pastas,steaks,wraps,snitznels, homemade deserts and salads to the menu.
